Pagan Art: "Thor's Fight with the Giants" by Marten Eskil Winge

Marten Eskil Winge was a 19th-century Swedish painter whose subjects included the gods and legends of the Nordic people. This painting "Thor's Fight with the Giants" was painted by Winge in 1872, when the artist was around 47 years old. It is a powerful composition and is rightly the best-known artistic depiction of the Norse god of thunder and fertility. Interestingly, but not surprisingly, Thor's belt is adorned with a swastika.
